When the abuser is also carrying a TANTO, we must consider the following:
Disarming the assailant, once locked and controlled their attack;
Do not let TANTO in reach of the aggressor when disarmed;
Dont lost sight of the TANTO of the aggressor without having checked their total neutralization, and keep it from the reach of other possible opponents;
Using TANTO to conduct the opponent.
(Weapon that is used on the practice of JUJUTSU)
The word “TANTO” is equal to two ideograms Japanese we can translate literally as:
“TAN” – Quick, short; “TO” – Sword.
The “TANTO” “JUTSU” is like a set of techniques that includes the dagger in any of its variants: “TANTO” AIKIUCHE, etc … Its length varies between 20 and 30 cm.
We can distinguish three “WAZAS” (WAZA – Technical) important: “TSUKI-WAZA“: projection of the arm with the “TANTO” to penetrate the opponent’s body; “UKE-WAZA“: blocking attacks with “TANT” “KIRI-WAZA“: cutting techniques with the “TANTO“.
They are also used in the “TANTO” dislocation techniques, bottlenecks and pressures.
The guard position, in reference to legs, do not differ from traditional positions (KOKUTSU-DASHI, NEKO-ASHI-DASHI, etc …). The difference is in the presentation of the “TANTO“. We have two ways of presenting the “TANTO” in combat: the one we call apparent or intimidating to the other may be called expectation, where we can hide our “TANTO“, giving the initiative to the opponent to show their intentions. In the first guard (intimidating) keep the “TANTO” unsheathed and the tip directed to the opponent. In the second guard we will try to do as the “TANTO” is not observed by the opponent, which involves the terms “TANTO” in the palm and directed to our forearm. These two guards are average (CHUDAN-KAMAE), but there are also other levels as well as different positions of the “TANTO“.
We will cite in particular the guards at a high level (Jodan-kamae). All these positions can be studied in KATAS (TANTOJUTSU-NO-KATA) mainly and practice of traditional techniques.
Anyone who has knowledge of martial arts will be aware of the vital points of the human body. Those to be attacked with blows (with the fist, foot Tanbo, BO, etc …) produce serious damage to the opponent hit.
When these same points are attacked by a “TANTO”, the results are very different and in this case more lethal. For this reason, we must perform techniques not as aggressive in relation to the life of the perpetrator.
Long unprotected anatomical areas that do not perform essential vital functions. In these cases, the type of techniques used must be KIRI-WAZA (constant technical).
TANTOJUTSU-NO-SENRYAKU (strategy tantojutsu).
The “TANTO” mainly is a short gun, from body to body.
It is important that the opponent is not aware of our weapon because in this case, it is approaching and may even change your attack to a greater distance.
In short, we lost the initiative, very important option in cases of actual combat, the initiative is meant as a possibility to get full control of the situation and not the possibility to first start the attack.
This does not mean that we have to always hide the “TANTO”.
