TANTO JUJUTSU

(Weapon used in JUJUTSU practice)
The word “TANTO” corresponds to two Japanese ideograms that we can literally translate as:
“TAN” – Short, short; “TO” – Saber.
The “TANTO” “JUTSU” is like a set of techniques that encompasses the dagger in any of its variants: “TANTO”, AIKIUCHE, etc … Their length varies between 20 and 30 cm.
We can distinguish three important WAZAS (WAZA – technique): “TSUKI-WAZA”: projection of the arm with “TANTO” to penetrate the body of the opponent; “UKE-WAZA”: blocking attacks with “TANT”; “KIRI-WAZA”: cutting techniques with “TANTO”.
Techniques of dislocation, bottlenecks and pressures are also used in the “TANTO”.
“KAMAE” (guard):
The guard positions, in reference to legs, do not differ from traditional positions (KOKUTSU-DASHI, NEKO-ASHI-DASHI, etc …). The difference is in the presentation form of “TANTO”. We have two ways of presenting “TANTO” in combat: the one we can call apparent or intimidating the other can be called expectation, in which we can hide our “TANTO”, giving the initiative to the opponent to show their intentions. In the first guard (intimidating) we keep the “TANTO” unsheathed and with the tip directed to the adversary. On the second guard we will try to pretend that “TANTO” is not observed by the opponent, which implies that we have “TANTO” in the palm of the hand and directed to our forearm. These two guards are middle level (CHUDAN-KAMAE), but there are also other levels as well as different positions of the “TANTO”.

We will cite, in particular, the guards at high level (Jodan-Kamae). All these positions can be studied in KATAS (TANTOJUTSU-NO-KATA), mainly, and in the practice of traditional techniques.
KYUSHO:
Anyone who has Martial Arts knowledge will have knowledge of the vital points of the human body. These when hit with a blow (with the handle, Foot TANBO, BO, etc …) produce serious damages in the adversary reached.
When these same points are attacked by a “TANTO”, the results are very different and in this case more lethal. For this reason, we must execute techniques that are not so aggressive in relation to the life of the aggressor.
There are very unprotected anatomical areas that do not perform vital vital functions. In these cases, the type of techniques to be used must be KIRI-WAZA (constant techniques).

Jujutsu Tanto Nippon Short Weapon

TANTOJUTSU_NO_SENRYAKU (strategy em TANTOJUTSU).

The “TANTO” mainly, is a weapon of short distance, of melee.
It is important that the opponent does not notice our weapon because, in this case, it approaches and may even change its attack to one of greater distance.
In short, we lost the initiative, a very important option in cases of real combat, the initiative is understood as the possibility of absolute control of the situation and not the possibility of starting the attack first.
This does not mean that we must always hide the “TANTO”.
